What you will do:

The Resource Area Information Specialist supports the activities of the Job Skills Newcomer Employment Programs and Services activities by:

                                                                       

  • Providing general direction and guidance to individuals and employers accessing the information/resource service
  • Researching and tracking current and relevant resources and materials for the information/resource center area and for clients
  • Assisting with the maintenance and enhancement of resources for clients, and maintaining the supply and appropriate use of resources
  • Seeking out new job search tools and websites for client use
  • Collecting labour market information to assist clients in job search strategies
  • Developing an awareness of community and social services and supports and makes referrals where appropriate
  • Watching for trends and provides supporting data to management for future report and proposal writing submissions
  • Interviewing clients to obtain employment history, educational background, career goals etc.
  • Using the case management needs assessment to determine the need for additional assistance and makes appropriate referrals to services
  • Planning a variety of live, virtual and hybrid events in line with the needs of clients and/or to build community partnerships
  • Facilitating information sessions and Welcome Centre (WC) related workshops
  • Following standard procedures for receiving and directing calls and handling walk-in clients
  • Scheduling appointments for the WC
  • Providing WC orientation/tours for clients and guests to the Welcome Centre

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2-4 years’ experience in the Social Service sector

QUALIFICATIONS:

What you will do:

  • Interview/assess clients to understand their needs, situations, strengths and goals to determine types of supports and services required
  • Meet with clients one on one or in groups to provide counsel to assist them in developing skills to deal with and resolve their social, economic and emotional issues as they relate to achieving economic independence
  • Contact and make referrals for assistance for clients including referral to agencies that provide financial assistance, legal aid, housing, medical/professional assessments/treatments and other services
  • Assess individual, group, and family needs where needed in order to support the best outcome for the client
  • Coordinate the facilitation of clients’ individual support networks, including Job Skills staff and client’s family members to provide financial and emotional support,
  • Liaise between client, family members (when appropriate) and employers to keep client moving forward towards positive outcomes
  • Update program team members on client issues
  • Act as a resource to program staff to assist in resolving issues they may face with clients
  • Maintain accurate records and preparing reports
  • Engage and operate within Job Skills’ policies and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Verifying mileage, travel and expense reports from employees
  • Entering cash receipts into general ledger
  • Processing all government-related documents, claims and remittances
  • Processing deposits and monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Verifying vendor accounts by reconciling monthly statements and related transactions
  • Controlling and managing Petty Cash for the organization
  • Providing assistance with the preparation of financial reports and spreadsheets

What you will do:

The Resource and Information Specialist supports the activities of the Job Skills Employment Programs and Services activities by:

 

  • Obtaining, updating and assisting clients to access information and resource centre materials
  • Providing overview of program services and processes to clients and when necessary assists clients with application process and completion of Self-Directed Needs Assessment
  • Reviewing client completed Needs Assessments and making determination to refer for Assisted Services Assessment
  • Assisting clients with the development, review and submission of Second Career Applications, through workshops and one-on-one assistance
  • Providing information to employers who are unfamiliar with our services (either by phone or in person) and accepting job postings
  • Providing orientation/information to clients regarding job search tools and strategies, apprenticeship training, workplace safety and the Canadian workplace
  • Monitoring resource area activity: Assisting clients in accessing e-mail, computers, internet, fax and photocopy equipment to support their job search
  • Providing guidance for clients to develop a job search strategy, identifying and matching career interests, skills and aptitudes, and preparing a resume and cover letter
  • Assisting clients in the completion of paperwork
  • Following standard procedures for receiving and directing calls and handling walk-in clients
  • Providing general program information to clients and refers appropriately
